Newsletter - November 14

What an incredible start to our campaign to win Coorparoo in the March City Council elections! We rocked Coorparoo Ward with an amazing launch party at The Pocket Community Garden, and smashed our fundraising goal of $5000. Thank you to the 50+ volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to create the biggest Greens event this ward has ever seen!

This is just the beginning!

Winning the Coorparoo Ward would give residents a real say in how their suburbs evolve. We want to have a city where development is sustainable and reflects the needs of residents, not developers and land speculators. A city where neighbourhood plans are binding and Council decisions are open and transparent.

We can make history in Coorparoo and we’d love you to be a part of it!

How can you help win Coorparoo Ward?

We’ll be honest. Without your help, we can’t win. We have so much good work to do before the election that every set of hands will make an incredible difference towards the final vote count.

We'd love you to come along to our Volunteer Training Session on Sunday 1 December, 1—4 pm. We’ll be explaining how we plan to win Coorparoo and what you can do to be part of it! Our experienced campaigners will share their top tips for talking about politics without losing your friends (and how to win over your conservative rellies at Christmas lunch!).

There are so many ways you can help The Greens win — here are just a few of them:

  • Doorknock (Sounds scary. We assure you it’s not)
  • Put up a Sally for Coorparoo yard sign
  • Help deliver letters to your local area
  • Join us at a Greens stall at a community event
  • Help staff a polling booth on election day
  • Donate $1 (or more!)
  • Connect us with a local community group
  • Reach out with the issues that are important to your area

We appreciate all the work volunteers do, no matter how much they contribute. Even if you only have 30 minutes to spare, we can find a way for you to be involved in this amazing campaign.

In The News

In case you haven’t seen it, we’ve made front page in the local news, with the South-East Advertiser running a huge p1 photo of Sally with her quirky penny farthing campaign vehicle, along with a p4 piece about Sally’s campaign. You can read the full article here.

Reimagine Brisbane

Reimagine Brisbane

Sally is honoured to be one of the panel presenters at Councillor Sri’s Reimagine Brisbane conference. This is going to a great event where we workshop the big ideas around our city. We’ll talk about ways we could do better and how different levels of government could support those ideas.

There will be presentations and forums from experts in a range of fields from housing and transport to the arts and climate change adaptation, as well as open discussions and collective visioning exercises. Sally will be discussing her ideas around democratising planning on the Planning for People panel. Be sure to come along! Check out the event on Facebook or the web to stay updated.

Your event not here? Drop us a line to have us include it in the next newsletter sally.dillon@qld.greens.org.au.

Together we can do this!
